Editing your
book is a crucial, and sometimes overlooked,
part of the
publishing process.
The only
part of the self -
publishing process that has more charlatans than the vanity press business as a whole is the
book marketing business, in particular.
The problem is, putting your
book on Amazon is a small
part of the self -
publishing process.
It's also the
part of the
process that you absolutely can not skip if you want to
publish a professional
book.
You probably thought completing your manuscript was the hardest
part of becoming a self -
published author, but you were wrong — the editing
process was as difficult and draining as writing the
book.
Having one's
book published (especially in this day and age
of on - demand self -
publishing) is only one
part of the
process because at some point, whether traditionally
published or self, we can all agree it comes down the selling.
In the next

Although I'm not some hugely accomplished writer, self -

books and the better
part of a third has seen some real changes in my
process.

To many writers, having your
book «accepted» and
published by someone else is a
part of the
process, but it's really not the only valid way to get a
book out there.
But, regardless
of what accolades and awards my
book gets, the best
part of getting our story
published is when I hear back from one
of the guys I served with and they tell me how it helped them start the healing
process.
Editing: The editing
of the
book is the most important, and also the most time - consuming,
part of the
publishing process.
The plan will include everything from outline development to first and second drafts, editing, rewrites, final draft and every
part of the
process of getting your
book ready to
publish.

book before it comes out is an important
part of your
publishing process.

If you are considering self
publishing, copy editing is an essential
part of the
process — to compete with the traditionally
published books, your
book must be as good as, if not better than other
books on the
book shop shelves.
Perhaps introducing a system that scans a
book as
part of the self -
publishing process, then automatically categorizes the
book as «Adult Erotica» with a subcategory
of «Sci - Fi / Fantasy» if, say, more than 50 % (or whatever the threshold is) is pornographic material.
In confronting issues
of race, class, gender and sexuality in the
books that we
publish, it is our hope that we can be
part of the
process of change.
HighWire, which was founded in 1995 and is a
part of the Stanford University library system, partners with a variety
of sources like universities, publishers, and professional organizations to
publish scholarly journals, ebooks, and more, while Tizra's web - based platform makes
book discovery and
book selling a more streamlined
process.
As
part of the testament to how the digital
publishing industry is changing the mindset about
books, Libboo does not limit content to either traditionally
published or self -
published works, although all
books must go through a rigorous
process after submission to be included in the site.
What authors struggle with most after this

process requires us to use the right tools to communicate, produce and broadcast our messages and content efficiently and effectively.
As

publishing process, you'll have to decide which formats you will
publish your
book in.
This includes finding and submitting to the right agent, editing, how the agent determines the best houses to submit work to, what the editors look for when they receive a submission, how the
process of contracting for a
book works, basic information on royalties, who has the responsibility for different
parts of the
process, time frames, the non-writing
parts authors will deal with, marketing, and many other aspects
of being traditionally
published.
Covers are such an important
part of the
publishing process, and when they are not done well, they are a huge detriment to the
book.

You may think the hardest, most important
parts of self -
publishing your
book are the writing and the actual
process of creating a
book.
This is perhaps the easiest and quickest
part of the entire
publishing process: making your
book available for sale.
The fact that they can decide how much their
book will cost and how many will be produced means they can control every
part of the
publishing process and focus on the best possible way to market themselves.
I went into
publishing because I thought that I could help more persons by being
part of the
publishing process — by offering
books on various subjects whenever or wherever people had a need.
I don't know about you, but the
process of designing a
book cover and then seeing the reality is one
of the most satisfying
parts of indie
publishing.
Although I don't deal with this
part of the
publishing process, I assume the imprint would be
part of the
book's metadata.
Throughout the
book, Joel Friedlander answers the WHAT — what is an editor, for example, the HOW — how do you find a good cover designer and how you make sure to get the result you want, the WHERE — where can you find the resources you need and the WHY — why is proofreading an essential
part of the self -
publishing process.
This aims to reward the outstanding
books of the year, both for what's inside their covers and for every
part of the
publishing process from author's talent to editing to PR campaigns.
