Biswas creates a futuristic sensorial drift through the
gallery, casting the listener as a post-human
participant cognitively fused to the audio, while the Tate Boat segment is a mix
of songs, monologues and interviews fading in and
out against an assortment
of oceanic soundscapes: a blend
of anecdotes and simulated acoustic spaces, pitched somewhere between experimental radio documentary (eg Glenn Gould's The Idea
of North) and radio play (eg Radio 4's production
of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
This includes setting up a workshop in The Showroom's
gallery during the exhibition for visitors and workshop
participants to test
out DIY designs for furniture and play, some
of which will be gathered through an open call.
It was, in essence, an exhibition
of Bui's extended network
of friends and friends
of friends, and the
participants ranged from
out - and -
out stars (Alex Katz, Shirin Neshat, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith) to complete unknowns who have no
gallery behind them, let alone patrons.
