Those who speak for the church have, very commonly, a fine sense of what is morally unacceptable in
particular human situations.

We shouldn't think of ethics strictly in terms of the
human micro-implications of a
particular situation.
Many have pointed out (most recently, Carson Holloway) that the application of natural law to our
situation requires the virtue of prudence, a mastery of the details of our circumstances (such as is possible for a
