Though United's
website allows an extremely seamless level of
partner bookings compared to many other airline
award booking
websites, it often runs into trouble processing complex itineraries with stopovers.
You can visit American's
website to find the current
award chart for travel booked on or before March 21, as well as the new
award charts for travel on American and travel on
partner airlines when booked on or after March 22.
As far as booking an
award ticket on a
partner flight goes, let's clear something up: If you want to use Flying Blue Miles to fly to Hawaii on Delta Airlines, you would transfer your UR points to the Flying Blue program, NOT Delta's, and then call Air France or use their
website to book the
partner flight on Delta.
If you want to book a
partner award search on either United or ANA's
website, then call in to complete the booking.
Also, these
partner awards sometimes don't appear on the airline's
website, so you'll have to call to book these
awards.
In general the same
award space is made available to all
partners — if another
partner displays it on their
website, then United's agents should be able to pull it up.
Before using Korean Air's
website to search for your
award, we recommend using Delta's
website to search for availability on most SkyTeam
partners.
Another good option for finding SkyTeam
partner awards is the Air France
website, which I've already written about.
The net result of this is that you can go to a given airline's
website and be offered
award flights on their
partners» planes — and if you're not paying attention this fact may pass you by.
Lufthansa first - class seats on many planes include a bed completely separate from your seat, but it is one of the hardest
awards to get and they only appear on
partners»
websites a couple weeks before take - off.
In this example I'll search for an
award from Los Angeles to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific — a good example because Cathay Pacific is one
partner that you can book using American Airlines or Alaska Airlines miles, but you can't search for it using their
websites.
To find available
award space, search for available flights on the
partner airline's
website and then call Virgin Atlantic to book.
In many cases, especially when you are redeeming JMB miles with oneworld and other
partners, you'll have to call because the
award flights won't show up on the
website.
Asiana is a Star Alliance carrier, and should have access to Star Alliance
partner award space, which you can generally search for on the
websites of United or Air Canada.
Because ANA doesn't display them, search for these on the United
website and then call ANA to book an international
partner award.
Hot Tip: In December 2016, Korean Air finally added Delta Air Lines and most other SkyTeam
partner routes to its
website for online
award booking.
Hot Tip: Be cautious searching for
awards directly on other airline
partner websites.
Etihad
award space is available on its own
website; look for «Guest Seat» availability to find
award space made available to
partners.
You can search for Etihad
awards on the Etihad Guest
website, but you can not search online for
partner awards.
Award space for nearly all Star Alliance carriers and most non-alliance
partners should be visible on the United Airlines
website.
For
partner awards, you can compare to results shown on the Air France
website since they have many
partners in common.
Cathay is a OneWorld alliance member and
award space can be found on certain OneWorld
partner website.
Look for
award space and routing options on the
partner's
website before calling so you can give that information to the service agent.
You can book
awards on Qantas and
partner airlines, book complicated routes with multiple stops and make changes to an existing itinerary via the
website.
This same tactic can be used for
award flights booked on
partner airlines and this is where understanding what you can and can not do becomes more important — not all airline
website will show you the overnight options like AA.com does.
