If your child
has severe
food allergies, you know that
parties are a huge challenge for families.
I
've talked to other families who
have decided to host their own
party and
have children trick - or - treat in different rooms of the house for
allergy - free
foods or even non-food items.
With my son's 2nd birthday in a month, I
've been stressing on
allergy free
foods for his
party.
I am a mom and don't agree with the junk
food in the classroom either — my child
has multiple
food allergies, so I
have spoken with our teachers about making the
party sign - up sheets start off with a list of healthy options.
And while we know that the development of
food allergies is a highly complex mix of both genetic and environmental factors, decreasing that risk
would mean less children at risk for anaphylaxis and more parents able to breathe a little bit easier whenever they send their children off to school or to a birthday
party.
The
allergy policy really saved the day, so now we don't
have to deal with the daily barrage of junk
food that used to be the norm (rewards, b - day
parties, holidays, etc).
