The lingering gravitational effects of a star that
passed by our solar system some 70,000 years ago can be seen in the movements of dozens of comets today, Gizmodo reports.

If the orbits of these bodies are disturbed —
by a
passing star, for example — they return to paths close to the planets of the
solar system and can become active comets.

solar system (as in the 76 - year orbit of Halley's Comet).

solar system, they can be broken into pieces
by Jupiter's gravity.
Passing within 1.4 million miles (2.3 million km) of Jupiter on 28 February 2007, the spacecraft picked up an additional gravitational impulse, which accelerated it towards the outer

Solar System for observation.
Two interesting possibilities are that Sedna might have been tugged into its current orbit
by a
passing star, or may have been captured from a different
solar system.
Comets
passing near large planets often are torn apart
by gravitational effects or receive gravity boosts that fling them, like slingshots, out of the
solar system forever.
From there, the CME washed over spacecraft throughout the inner
solar system — including
passing by Curiosity on Mars, near comet 67P / Churyumov - Gerasimenko and out to Saturn.
The
