Rachel, I know that you have done this in the
past, so what was your
experience with prenatal
yoga?
For a long time I didn't believe that there was anything from my
past that could have triggered this
experience in my life, but
yoga has helped me to realize that some of this was in fact learned behavior, some of this was the reaction of cruel kids in school and some was just simply fear of not being enough in my life.
It hasnt been my specialty, but I have practiced partner
yoga in the
past and it has been a profound
experience of trust, selfless service, and, yes, unity.
The program was developed as a result of my
yoga training, my research and
experience with program planning, my discussions with experts, and perhaps most importantly, my personal
experience working with residents living in a memory care home for the
past three years teaching twelve classes per week.

We all come to
yoga with a baggage of
past experiences and habits, which influence how we sit, how we stand, how we walk, and so on.
Nearly 50 % of participants had prior
experience with
yoga, however most had not practiced regularly, and none had practiced in the
past 6 months.

Yoga Nidra was taught by the ancient wisdom teachers for the purpose of exploring the deep impressions or samskaras (
past experiences that form desires that influence future responses and behavior which drive our actions or karma).
Some days when I begin my
yoga practice I can feel the entire physical history of my body: here is that neck tension from staring at the computer all day yesterday, and here is that old hamstring injury from an unfortunate split, and here is that wonky sacrum... Every body carries the history of
past injuries and hurts, but most of the time your brain chooses not to get alarmed about it and those
experiences of
past pain do not rise to the level of a full - blown pain episode.
