While these
updates could make some people think that Windows 10 Mobile
devices still have a future since they continue receiving
patches, they're actually just security fixes that come
to address the vulnerabilities and bugs that Microsoft discovered recently.
Hopefully the long
update delay has given Motorola the chance
to patch various issues with early Android 5 builds and the 5.0.2 builds that have begun seeding will offer the stability and performance that Moto
devices are expected
to deliver.
This makes the Galaxy A5 (2017) among the first
devices in Samsung's arsenal
to receive the February
patch and that is not surprising, given the fact that the Galaxy A-series of smartphones have indeed been the first smartphones
to get the monthly security
updates from the manufacturer for the last few months.
The new
patches — Quadrooter and Android's latest security
updates — are for work underneath the
device to improve aspects like protection and security.
For comparison's sake, Google recently published an
update timeline clearly stating that Nexus
devices will only receive
updates to the latest version of Android for two years, with an additional year of security
patches tacked on at the end.
Samsung's been taking it rather slow with the February
patch, no doubt because of the Galaxy S9 and S9 + (and possibly the Oreo
update for the Galaxy S8), and with the month - end approaching, it doesn't look like the February 2018
patch will be making their way
to most Galaxy
devices before March (or at all, if Samsung decides
to skip ahead
to the March security
patch).
