Until now, the
data and test results for this ongoing work have all come from preexisting, online digital
data sets of
gene expression from
patients with different kinds of infections — not from current
patients.

patient data taken from The Cancer Genome Atlas, molecular biologists Curt M. Horvath and Robert W. Tell used powerful computational and bioinformatics techniques to detect patterns of
gene expression in two cancer subtypes.
