The
Peak Brightness for the OLED Galaxy Smartphones have been steadily increasing, to over 1,000 nits for the Galaxy Note7, which is used
in implementing the new HDR High Dynamic Range modes and content, and for improved display performance
in ambient lighting.
On the plus side, the iPhone 5 has a much higher
Peak Brightness (556 versus 421 to 491 cd / m2), a much lower Screen Reflectance (4.5 versus 5.6 to 6.5 percent), a much higher Contrast Rating for High Ambient Light (121 versus 65 to 88), and therefore much better screen visibility
in high ambient light.
Displaymate says that the major display enhancements introduced
in the Note 7 include a new wider color gamut and new HDR mode specifically for 4K videos and a record
peak brightness of over 1,000 nits.
The most impressive improvements are

All of these Flagship Tablets have fairly bright displays, with the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 the brightest full size Tablet that we have measured so far
in this Shoot - Out series, with an impressive

The enhanced solar activity that characterized the Sun at the
peak of the last two cycles,
in 1979 - 1981 and again
in 1989 - 1991, increased both the overall
brightness and the amplitude of the rotational modulation.
For 2017, LG improved
peak brightness by about 20 percent, improved the lowest part of the black range, adding more subtle gradients for better shadow detail, changed the anti-reflective screen coating so that the display looks deep black when turned off (instead of casting a purple hue as LG's OLEDs have
