Hydro says in a news release that the partnership awarded the $ 1.6 billion contract expects to hire as many as 1,600 workers by
the peak of construction in 2021 and has agreed to give priority to Indigenous applicants and those from northeastern B.C.
At a time when 1 in 5 construction workers is looking for employment, 70,000 will idle away
the peak of construction season at home, without pay.
For achieving the first phase, the project created more than 585 jobs during
the peak of the construction phase.
The project will result in approximately 1,000 jobs at
the peak of construction, with total construction wages of approximately $ 250 million.
The power will be sold into the Alberta Power Pool, energizing more than 12,000 homes and businesses across Alberta, while employing more than 270 workers during
the peak of construction.
Approximately 565 jobs were created in the region during
the peak of construction phase.
Ivanpah, the world's largest solar thermal project, reached the halfway mark of construction as well as
the peak of its construction workforce at the end of July!
