I'd also (in a way) strongly second Steve Mosher's preference that we respect Gavin and Michael's plea «to open the discussion here to all of the authors to give their thoughts...» Only the authors should post comments (at least initially, and for some time after that), and the peanut gallery should watch.
RC is a not in my opinion a forum for serious discussion of science, its a forum for the team to educate journalists and members of the peanut gallery about the party line.
From my vantage point in the Peanut Gallery the lack of focus here created the opportunity for a few to hyjack the discussion and turn it into a critique of CE and JC.
