For this exercise, I've looked at World Series and
Pennant odds from the Westgate Superbook in Vegas and the offshore book BetOnline and compared them to Fangraphs» playoff odds.
The list below displays how the World Series and
Pennant odds have changed at BetOnline from July 23rd to August 1st.
As expected, World Series and
pennant odds were originally taken off the board.
The two teams with the best
pennant odds half way through the season are the two teams in the World Series.
This caused Houston's odds of winning the World Series to drop from +1600 to +2000 while
their Pennant odds dipped from +700 to +900.
Not exact matches
With these two moves, the Giants
odds of winning the World Series improved from +700 to +600 while their
odds of winning the NL
Pennant moved from +350 to +300.
Their
odds of winning the American League
Pennant improved from +450 to +250, which make them the clear - cut favorite.
Their
odds for the World Series and
pennant have certainly improved over the past month, but no team or futures bettor can feel comfortable when the wildcard game is in play.
Whichever team survives out of the AL East will be a serious contender in
odds to win the AL
pennant with the Boston Red Sox (6/1), Tampa Bay Rays (6/1) and New York Yankees (13/2) going off as the next three teams on the betting board behind Detroit.
If they tighten their defense — especially around second base — the
odds are good that they can regain that lost
pennant.
