Gander has set up a little studio just inside the entrance to the fair, where he is printing up and mounting a series of black - and - white portraits to line the corridor: rather than mugshots of the famous, these are images of people looking past the camera at art that interests them.

As part of the 2011 exhibition Nothing Beside Remains curated by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) in Marfa, Texas, Thomson produced a magazine called People based on the aesthetic of typical tabloids, featuring snapshots of art patrons at an array of galleries, museums and art fairs.
Tate Britain's press department must really enjoy having to explain annually that the prize is not awarded on the installation at the Tate (it's for any show they've done over that year), but it's unavoidable that the public — or, at least, those members of the public not used to the art fair / biennial Wurlitzer (i.e, the sort of people who use the word «public» as though it doesn't apply to them)-- won't follow that the thing you're looking at isn't the thing that wins.
The wealthy people who buy art at the fair often have plenty more to spend.
