I don't understand why
people upvote such answers.
If you're a techie and you build stuff, you likely know Y Combinator's Hacker News, a crowdsourced community in which users post technology - related links upon which
people upvote and comment.
That's what I thought, but I was starting to doubt myself there, since
people upvoted him for that remark, and I got blocked for inquiring about it...
Seriously, why are
people upvoting this?

It's very well known in the startup community as a kind of Reddit for new products, featuring Q&A's with founders, videos and a front page where
people can
upvote products they like the most.
Remember, the more insightful and relevant your comments are, the more likely that other
people will
upvote them, and the more money you'll make.
I think the
upvote or downvote is not reflective of the comment but rather the
person, atleast to some extent.

Being downvoted (and
upvoted) implies that you are asking a good question that makes some
people uncomfortable.

people don't write answers here in order to be
upvoted in the first place.
Plus since they have votes of
people they represent, with their
upvotes / downvotes they would effectively act as moderators.
The president (or anyone) could request that Congress pass a law instructing Reddit to award each
person on that page one
upvote.
So getting a lot of
people to
upvote your cover design doesn't make a lot of sense (except — by being a winner you'll get a little bit more visibility and free publicity... so I'm not saying don't do it.
The site allows for
people to vote on answers to questions, which ranks the question as an «
upvote» or «downvote.»
Other
people can
upvote or downvote your annotations so that the next readers can easily find the best annotations.

upvotes, @BenMiller I want to point out the
people in the court case did seek professional help, and still would up in tax court and lost.
In the picture, Rosie looks just as pleasantly confused as the almost 90,000
people who

Somewhere deep in a Reddit thread in comments that probably didn't get many
upvotes, I'm sure
people predicted it.
If you're unfamiliar with review bombing, it's basically an act where
people who are upset with a developer take their frustrations out by posting poor review scores for their game en masse, often
upvoting the negative reviews at the same time to actively try lowering a game's overall user rating.
Oddly enough, we didn't see any spike on Steam Greenlight when we were at showcases (and God knows how much we asked
people to
upvote us!)
There he admitted he was using a hack to trick
people, and said the whole idea was due to him «betting» with a friend that he could get more than 500
upvotes on the Zelda Breath of the Wild subreddit.
Love watching the butt hurt tribes kids running through the comments down voting
people who disagree and

You can also
upvote, and downvote the comments of other
people.
People here are «compensated» by
upvotes, reputation, and comments, and generally can't require payment in exchange for their time and efforts, nor make their work contingent on any sort of reward.
Thanks to this reputation system, it doesn't matter if you get a responsive answer from a
person that uses his IRL name, or from a user with a mysterious pseudonym that has the picture of a slice of pie as an avatar... if this user was «
upvoted» thousands of times in forums related to the field of computer programming you are most interested in.
But I don't know of any statute broad enough to include downvoting a question or answer, on a site
people post on knowing that the whole purpose of posting is to allow their posts to be
upvoted and downvoted.
The
upvoting system in the Windows Feedback app is especially helpful to allow us to identify and prioritize the issues which are important to the most
people.
