More than simply being extra bodies on the field, or allowing you to switch out and control them, your crew can jump in to
perform a Kizuna Attack, extending and finishing off your
combo with a
powerful move.
Like with many fighting games,
performing combos etc will charge a player's «super meter» and this will allow players to
perform various actions such as special moves, countering opponent attacks or unleash their most
powerful attacks.
New to DW8 is the «Rage Awakening» — when it's gauge fills up, you can click the Right Stick to enter an awakened state where your attacks are more
powerful, and your Musou gauges combine into one long bar — giving you access to the ultimate Musou attack that is more reminiscent of the long, devastating Musou
combos seen in the PS2 entries — and are extremely satisfying to
perform!

The Persona can
perform specific moves depending on your input, it can help you chain together even longer and more
powerful combos, or it can be summoned as your character's «super» attack.
The default control scheme consists of pressing square to
perform a light attack; pressing triangle to
perform a medium attack; pressing X to
perform a heavy attack; pressing O to
perform a character power; pressing L1 to
perform a throw; pressing R2 to
perform a meter burn; pressing R1 to interact with the arena; pressing L2 to flip stance; combining any of the basic fighting moves into a
powerful combo; changing the direction of the left analogue stick or pressing up, down, left or right on the d - pad to move your character and position your character in accordance with the fighting move; pressing the share button takes you to the share feature menu; and pressing the options button to display the pause menu.
Each character has three unique moves that can be strung together to create
combos, and
performing these will fill a Special gauge that can then be used to initiate breakers and
powerful Ultra moves.
