During
periods of
southerly winds and in July and August especially, the swell can be a bit hairy and you are very likely to get wet on the crossing.
The earlier
period of powerful hurricane activity matched previous studies that found evidence of high hurricane activity during the same
period in more
southerly areas of the western North Atlantic Ocean basin — from the Caribbean to the Gulf Coast.

southerly winds from both the northern North Atlantic and the Bering Strait areas, pushing Arctic air temperatures to unusually high levels for brief
periods in early December and near Christmas.
