In a new study the PhD students Jan Hoeber, Niclas König and Carl Trolle, working in Dr.Elena Kozlova's research group transplanted
human stem cells to an avulsion injury in mice with the aim to restore a functional route for sensory information from
peripheral tissues into the spinal cord.
Figure 2 shows sets of results for four areas of
human corneal endothelial
tissue; central endothelium (defined by endothelial cells within a 4 mm trephined boundary), central - intermediate endothelium (defined by endothelial cells within an 8 mm trephined boundary), intermediate -
peripheral endothelium (defined by endothelial cells between the 4 mm trephine edge and 12 mm from the center of the corneal endothelium), and the
peripheral endothelium (defined by the 8 mm trephined edge and 12 mm from the center of the corneal endothelium).
Human total RNA was also extracted using TRIzol ® Reagent (Invitrogen) from
peripheral blood lymphocytes and fat
tissue.
When wounds were made in an X pattern (extending from the
peripheral to the central cornea) in the
human cornea, intracellular staining occurred in the area of the wounded
tissue (Figure 4).
The assay has been validated for use with
human and mouse cell lysates and
tissue homogenates, such as
peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) lysates, and will be marketed through Enzo's worldwide sales and marketing group.
Dr. Shresta and her team have isolated new DENV and ZIKV strains in mice by adapting viral isolates from
humans and mosquitoes into
peripheral tissues of mice.
Conclusions: In an analysis of
peripheral blood mononuclear cells and intestinal
tissues from patients with inflammatory bowel diseases vs controls, we found that reactivity to intestinal bacteria is a normal property of the
human CD4 + T - cell repertoire, and does not necessarily indicate disrupted interactions between immune cells and the commensal microbiota.
Samples of central and
peripheral human corneal endothelial
tissue were obtained as described above.
