persistent childhood insomnia may represent
subclinical, prodromal precursors of anxiety, perhaps reflecting the beginning of the presleep cognitive arousal and hypervigilance that can lengthen sleep onset and disrupt deep sleep and that also have been theorized to underlie the development of anxiety» (Armstrong et al. 2014, p. 907).
