November 12, 2008 The goal
of this campaign is to encourage
pet lovers who are looking for a
pet to make animal shelters and
rescue groups their first choice, saving the life
of a dog or cat
in need, rather than buying from other sources.
Whenever we've had a chance to improve the lives
of pets in our community, we've stepped forward to help: taking
in 40 extra and unplanned cats
in a hoarding case,
rescuing 90 dogs
in a puppy mill bust, dealing with influx
of kitties during kitten season and giving older cats infected with URI the medicine and TLC they
need to recover.
It will also enable RCHS to accept more and larger food donations that can be used to feed animals
in the shelter, and that can be shared with others through the
pet food bank as well as with local
rescue groups
in need of pet food for the animals
in their care.
Over the years the
needs of «at risk» dogs and cats have been changing due to the incredible efforts
of innovative
rescue groups (like us), an increase
in the communities desire for No Kill shelters and an increased awareness
of the
need to adopt a
pet rather than buy from a breeder.
FOSTER A DOG OR CAT — We are always
in need of good foster families for our
rescued pets.
We rarely assist
in placing dogs with special
needs or aggression — we simply are not equipped to
rescue these dogs, as our dogs are heavily socialized with others (a doggy daycare environment), or
in foster homes, almost all
of which have children and other
pets.
We work with Coulee Region Humane Society and other
pet rescue organizations, as well as local veterinarians, to identify clients and award grants
of $ 100 or more for services
needed to keep
pets healthy and
in loving homes.
But, by weekend's end and after appearing at two adoption events — one at For Goodness Sake, a thrift store
in Cave Creek whose sales benefit animal
rescue groups, another at an area
pet store — Wolfie remained
in need of a permanent home.

In the few months I have been operating Superior Mutts Doggie
Rescue Inc., I have been approached by a handful
of people whose friends or relatives have died and who
need to find new homes for their
