Pet Care Project's mission is to feed the animals of
homeless and low income

PHOENIX, AZ, JANUARY 18, 2012 — Every day, overcrowded animal shelters look
for new ways to save the lives of
homeless pets, such as promoting adoptions and encouraging
people to sterilize their

Writing this Letter from the Editor has me reflecting on the rewarding experience it has been so far, from working with the wonderful writers of «TulsaPets» and meeting selfless
people who champion
for animal causes (especially the
homeless pet population), to learning about some amazing local animals.

people might think shelter medicine is mostly about spay / neuter, but a group of progressive veterinarians are changing paradigms all over the United States as they develop innovative, data - driven strategies

for themselves and unable to take their

The reality is there are only so many
people who want to have a
pet, and most animal shelters are already reaching their capacity to care
for homeless pets.
Messages about how spaying and neutering reduces the number of
homeless / unwanted animals born annually are the most motivating to encourage
people to have their dogs and cats sterilized, along with educating the public about the safety and quality of low - cost clinics and the appropriate age
for a
pet to undergo surgery.

Pet Food Bank: The
Pet Food Bank provides
pet food and
pet supplies
for the benefit of
pets living with
people on fixed incomes, with
people who are sick or disabled, working families that are struggling financially, and
people who are
homeless.
Each community is collectively responsible
for its decisions regarding
homeless animals and
for creating safe, humane environments
for the
people and
pets who live in them.
There are far to many
homeless pets and far to few
people to care
for these
pets, So thank you.
However, of greatest importance to me is our accountability to that
person who wrote that first letter, and to
people who, through the years, have invested their hope in Best Friends Animal Society
for a better world
for homeless pets and an end to shelter killing.
