only bring home to us the awful reality of this fact by saying that for it — i.e. for
philosophical analysis each man's particular future can in the last resort be defined as «nothingness», and that it can understand freedom for the future solely as «the readiness for dread» (Angstbereitschaft), which man has to accept by an act of resolve.
