In the highly competitive cell phone industry, carriers and
phone manufacturers attempt to differentiate themselves by targeting specific needs.
The complete lack of marketing for the TouchPad shows that HP did not understand what proper marketing entails and the new tablet already faces an uphill battle to become a success in the current marketplace with more PC OEMs and mobile
phone manufacturers attempting their own Android tablets, with mixed levels of success and many more lines still not making money.

Dell's failure with the Streak series also underscores the major issue that such
manufacturers face when
attempting to enter the marketplace with such a heavily commoditized platform such as Android without having a proper contingency plan in place, as the competition from other
manufacturers left it scrambling to catch up while never really being able to grab a foothold in the marketplace; this was also evidenced by its awkward handling of its
attempt to compete in the smartphone market again in the Venue series, with one Android model and one Windows
Phone model.

Android users continue to be quagmired between
phone manufacturers not releasing the latest updates for their handsets, and then carriers not rolling them out, leaving users potentially vulnerable to new threats, a situation that Google is seeking to address with its latest
attempt to facilitate Android updates, Project Treble.
While ours certainly is to question their existence, today we hold these
phones in our hands and simply
attempt to enjoy two of the best smartphones Android
manufacturers have to offer, with some of the leanest software — damn near Nexus - like Android — that's available.
