It doesn't really matter if the
photos are to promote a new Hollywood Blockbuster or a family
portrait, find a great photographer and book a session.
I find this works best for
portraits and human
photos, and I'd rather
not color - correct every single image painstakingly.

Although the rear camera sensor has some mild depth - sensing capabilities, the front camera does
not; the latter uses AI exclusively for

So if you buy the new iPhone 8, for instance, it will
not have the ability to take
Portrait Mode
photos.
If you take a
photo in
Portrait mode and then decide that you don't want the blurred effect anymore, you can remove it in a few quick steps.
You can argue that the
portrait mode shooting and lossless 2x zoom isn't as important as the
photo quality from the main camera, but it's something the iPhone X can do the Galaxy S9 just doesn't match.
If you're going to be using
Portrait Mode for taking great
photos, make sure Christmas lights don't ruin your shot.
Instead, Google uses software to create the bokeh effects, which means you won't be able to see a preview of a
portrait mode
photo until you take it.
I've only had the Pixel 2 for a few very busy days, so I haven't yet had time to snap landscape
photos or test low light and video performance, but I wanted to spend some time with the new
Portrait Mode in particular, since it uses just a single lens and machine learning.
The HTC One M8 has a nice
portrait camera for sharing
photos on social networks, but you can't use it to replace a point - and - shoot camera and I can't recommend you use it to capture memories where you want to see the details of the image in the future.
The Pixel 2 has a revamped
portrait mode that uses machine learning to figure out exactly where the background is in your
photo and it
not longer requires you to move your phone around to get a good shot.
The new Pixel will use machine learning to produce convincing
portrait photos,
not only with the rear camera but also the 8MP front - facing one as well.
The ZenFone 4 Max doesn't use its dual cameras to enable
portrait - style
photos with blurred backgrounds in the vein of the Moto G5S Plus.
The Galaxy S9 doesn't have a secondary rear camera, meaning it can't take Live Focus (
portrait mode)
photos or use the 2X telephoto zoom.
We're
not going to compare the
photos from the LG V30 and the U11, because they did
not have a
Portrait Mode.
While the app would install, the
photos would
not save when snapped in
Portrait Mode.
And while you might get a perfectly serviceable Live
Photo selfie, it likely won't look nearly as good as shooting in
Portrait mode.
The dual - lens camera was also revealed to have an extra feature called shallow depth of field that makes it possible for the smartphone to take
photos with the Bokeh effect, making them
not just plain images, but
portraits that really have depth and style.
If you thought that
portrait shots looked a little artificial then these are even more so, but they're well done within the constraints of, you know,
not actually having a
photo studio and # 1000 of lights!
