Gallery 08.07.2017 — 01.10.2017 Compton Verney's summer exhibition will take you on a fascinating and stimulating journey that looks at the ways in which our visual perceptions have been explored
by artists.
Her working environment, documented for the first time in a number of new
photographs by the
artist, will be recreated as installations in the
gallery, down to the paint pots, brushes, books and discarded scraps of newspaper that are similarly covered in the spatters, splashes and drips that result from her obsessive painterly method.
These
artists will be represented
by paintings,
photographs, sculptures and video installations that will entirely occupy the Foundation's 28 -
gallery, 45,000 - square - foot museum.
As well as this, early collages and
photographs from the archive of Martin Wong at the Fales Library were selected for the exhibition
by the
artists Danh Vo and Julie Ault are shown in vitrines and are displayed in the window of the
gallery.
In addition to paintings
by several Gutai members, including Yoshihara, Atsuko Tanaka, Shozo Shimamoto, Sadamasa Motonaga, Kazuo Shiraga and Akira Kanayama, the exhibition includes examples of the Gutai journal and other publications; documentation of the 1958 Gutai exhibition at the Martha Jackson
