Throughout the summer, school - aged children and adults can discover and enjoy contemporary
photography and image culture and participate in fun and playful learning
experiences together.
Marking the culmination of a year - long celebration of
photography at the museum, this installation brings
together an exquisite group of gifts, ranging from innovative photographs made in the earliest years of the medium's history to key works by important 20th - century artists and contemporary pieces that examine the ways in which
photography continues to shape our
experience of the modern world.
The exhibition brings
together a great range of artistic practices and languages (
photography, video, painting, sculpture, installation...), cultures, geographic origins, generations and
experiences, to establish a tension between extremely different artistic approaches: melancholy of vanity, ironic play with identity, political biography and existential questioning, the body as sculpture, effigy or fragment of its symbolic substitute.
The installation of the works is of equal importance to the selection of images: by displaying this collection of small Philip - Lorca diCorcia «Roid» photographs
together, one after the other on a thin aluminium rail, diCorcia is encouraging an altogether more immediate way of
experiencing photography.
