with previously collected genetic
data from living birds to update the
phylogenetic tree of bird evolution.
The fossilized skeleton is thought to date from the late Miocene and is unusually complete, providing the researchers
with new anatomical and
phylogenetic data.
Stankowich et al. used natural history
data, including range overlap
with potential predators, body size, and activity patterns, in conjunction
with comparative
phylogenetic analyses on 181 species of mammals to identify patterns of predation risk that could have contributed to the evolution of these two defensive strategies.
They then genotyped each sample to determine how the strains were related, and used previous datasets to compare this
data and integrate the results in a new
phylogenetic tree
with other M. bovis found throughout Africa.

data, and to construct and work
with phylogenetic trees.
This project produced
data demonstrating that 185 CHIKV sequences associated
with the 2014 Caribbean outbreak segregate into 2 well - supported clades, that multiple
phylogenetic subclades are associated
with clinical phenotypes, and that multiple international transmission events were observed.
