The fragment shared ∼ 86 % nucleotide identity with its closest
phylogenetic relatives in GenBank, SAdV - 18, an Old World vervet monkey adenovirus, and the human species D adenoviruses.
Notably, the closest identified
phylogenetic relative to TMAdV among the complete genomic sequences available in GenBank is a rhesus monkey adenovirus, SAdV - 3 (Fig. 4; Table 2).

Evolutionary theory has been validated in the successful prediction of a wide range of biological observations, e.g., the fused 2nd human chromosome, the
phylogenetic distribution of endogenous retroviruses, the
relative positions and features of intermediate and transitional fossils, etc, etc..
The
phylogenetic analysis of the Lingula genome indicates that brachiopods are close
relatives to molluscs, and more distant cousins to segmented worms; however, their relations to other lophotrochozoans still require further investigation.
