While going through the lengthy campaign of Gears of War 3, players can set the game in arcade mode where they will have to ability to enable modifiers such
as «No
AMMO Pick Up».
As you lay waste to zombies and other creatures, you can
pick up
ammo and other boosts to keep yourself going strong.
You have to start worrying about taking out certain enemies first,
picking up health and
ammo, dodging, using power - ups or your best weaponry effectively, you really have to think on your feet and it's satisfying
as Hell.
Battle Race, starts out like Power Race but once you reach the «Fire Zone» board weapons become available and all hell breaks loose, there's the same
pick - ups
as Power race with the addition of
ammo and double damage.
I was delighted to discover that you can now
pick up
ammo and armor pieces by simply walking over them,
as using a button to do felt incredibly clunky in the first game.
The game's environments are unfortunately not
as feature - rich
as I would have liked, but uniquely there are weapons scattered around the battlefields giving you an offensive option if you end up running out of
ammo mid-mission, a feature I don't recall seeing before in a mech game (
ammo pick - ups yes, but weapon
pick - ups no).
The good: this mode can save you a lot of
ammo as otherwise the game's guns lose
ammo fast than a colander loses water and there are hardly any
ammo pick - ups in the game.
The Spy has a selection of weapons to equip, including three pistols (PPK, SR1, MK23), two
ammo types (Lethal, Non-lethal), gadgets and grenades (Banshee, Remote Pager, Remote Modem, Fragmentation Grenade, Flashbang) and two outfits (Tactical Gear, Low Profile — civilian outfit),
as well
as a lock -
picking option to help infiltrate secure areas without calling attention to themselves.
When shooting, watch out for the reload time of your weapons and try to
pick up
as much
ammo as possible - you don't want to be caught short in the middle of a firefight!
Sadly Telesto doesn't regenerate
ammo like Invective, so you're stuck with having to
pick up the
ammo as you see it.
It also carries some old school elements
as you
pick up
ammo or health along the way.
It works well for the game
as you grab
ammo by the handful and that's matched with the other items you
pick up such
as health.
There are no health bars or
ammo pick - ups, all you get are the items that are given to you in the stage to throw or use to disarm an enemy so
as to steal his weapon.
With the game's survival horror aspects, this
ammo just so happens to be limited too, so you'll often be
picking and choosing your battles and running away from
as many enemies
as you kill.
Ammo is not a concern in the game,
as it is not one of the items that can be
picked up.
You can always tell when you
picked up a new Slinger
ammo type
as your hunter will start a short reload animation.
