The research, carried out for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) by UCL Institute of Education, carried out in - depth interviews with staff in five primary
schools piloting the assessments and questioned 1,131 NUT and ATL members in a snapshot survey.
Policymakers did not intend for a state to
pilot an assessment system with districts indefinitely, but to instead work, over time, with all districts in the state to implement the innovative assessment system.
The government will
also pilot assessments of «aptitude, personality and resilience» with the aim of introducing these into the selection process for trainee teachers.
