Sometimes you get to see handsome men / famous actors adopt adorable
pit bulls
at your
local shelter.
When I was
at my
local shelter recently dropping off some food, I took a walk through the dog pavilion: lots of bigger dogs, mostly
pit mixes or Lab mixes, athletic, high - energy big dogs that I couldn't provide enough exercise for, many of whose cages bore signs saying that they couldn't be confined in a pen because they are athletic dogs who jump Not on people, but over things.
I've checked out our
local shelter, and
at any given time, nearly all dogs taken in are
pit bulls.
At Pit Bull Rescue San Diego, our experience of our
local shelters and the workers there are that they are compassionate and overwhelmed and work very closely with us to try to save as many of these dogs as possible.
A few years ago while volunteering
at the
local animal
shelter I noticed that
Pit Bulls were among the only breed not going out to
local breed specific rescues in the area.
I work with dogs
at our
local shelter and am still hesitant to walk or socialize the
pit bulls.
