To prevent litter from getting all over the place or your cat scratching the walls around the box (usually the reason it was covered in the first place), move the box further from the walls and
place mats underneath with 1 - 2 feet on each side.
Some litters track more dust than others, but even with dust - free litter like World's Best Cat Litter, I like to
place a mat underneath the litter box extending at least 18 inches in front to keep any bits of litter contained.
