Your Place Is Here.

That's the thread that bleeds into «The Place is Here», an exhibition currently shared between mima and South London Gallery that travelled from Nottingham Contemporary, surveying the work of British black artists through the 1980s.

The Place Is Here brings together around 100 works by over 30 artists and collectives spanning painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and archival displays from the 1980s, exploring this pivotal decade for British culture and politics.

The day featured contributions from Nick Aikens, Curator at Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven and co-curator of recent exhibitions «The Place Is Here» and «Rasheed Araeen: A Retrospective»; artists Raju Rage, Trishna Shah, Leah Clements and Phoebe Collings - James; and music producer Elijah.

February 4 — April 30, 2017 Nottingham Contemporary is presenting a major new exhibition, The Place Is Here, in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.

By any standards, the last 12 months represent a significant stage in the artist's 35 - year career: alongside two solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford and Spike Island in Bristol, Himid was included in «The Place is Here», a survey of black British art at Nottingham Contemporary.

For black British artists who emerged during the early 1980s (the focus of a recent display, «The Place is Here», at the South London Gallery), Bowling provided a tangible link between two historical moments.

The year 2017 has turned out to be particularly significant in Himid's career with a Turner Prize nomination for her simultaneous solo shows, «Navigation Charts» at Spike Island, Bristol and «Invisible Strategies» at the Modern Art Oxford, as well as her participation in the group exhibition «The Place is Here» at Nottingham Contemporary.
