Use sucanat
for brown
sugar and honey granules in
place of white sugar.
To make vanilla
sugar place a cut vanilla bean into 1 - 2 cups (200 - 400 grams)
of granulated
white sugar or confectioners
sugar and store in a covered container
for a few weeks before using.
I use it in
place of white sugar almost exclusively, but it is expensive

place of the egg
white (be aware many varieties
of icing
sugar have «may contain egg» warnings).
The butter is dialed back, refined
sugar is swapped
for pure maple syrup, and whole grains are used in
place of white flour.
For the sweetener, I thought a light Muscavado brown
sugar would be nice alongside the apples - in
place of white sugar.
Coconut
sugar is a a little less sweet than
white sugar, but still easily substituted 1
for 1 in
place of sugar.
