Because my job required me to work closely with illustrators, I have always enjoyed many opportunities to witness
how illustrations conveyed life into
plain text and transformed stories into virtual storyboards.
The hardest jump is the one from print to ePub — you need to put
plain text, often from multiple documents or
text flows, and non-linear elements such as images, into a cleanly - tagged linear flow, and package it with a table of contents and instructions on

how to decrypt the passwords.
I have put the word «or» when necessary to see
how the statute fits together (which could be omitted in a block quotation showing omissions with»...») in italics and have left the remainder of the relevant statutes in
plain text to allow a reader to confirm that the reading I am giving to the statute is correct.
Regular email is sent via
plain text, and if you watch Google's «Story of Send» you can see
how many touch points a Gmail message has from the time you hit «send» to the time it gets to your recipient.
If the
text is deemed to be «unambiguous,» then textualism seems to cleanly slice through obfuscation like a scalpel, cutting away all messy questions about
how to define and apply broad statutory purpose, legislative history, or judicially crafted substantive canons by instructing the judge to follow the «
plain»
text.
Impress on students that preparing for a class with statutes / rules means reading and parsing the
text of the rule — it means reading so they can explain, in
plain English, what the rule / statute means and
how it operates.
These include the enormity of the discretion available to our top judges, the wildly varying degree to which some things matter, or don't, seemingly on a whim — like the
plain meaning of the
text, established precedent, and framer's intent — and
how politics can explain why the Court can be pathologically timid while somehow simultaneously rendering an unpopular decision.
If you need to add context to a
text message or just aren't sure
how to reply to someone, an emoji is a great way to say things differently than you can with just
plain text.
