Teachers could become
more effective with their students if they had
more time outside of class for
planning instruction and grading student work.
To improve special education, we need to ensure full funding so that districts can hire certified special - education teachers; reduce paperwork so special - education teachers have
more time for
planning and
instruction; and provide administrators with training in special education.
These outcomes were
more likely for teams led by a trained peer - facilitator, teaching similar content, in stable settings in which to engage in ongoing improvement, and using an inquiry - focused protocol (such as identifying student needs, formulating instructional

The only way to implement any of these reforms successfully, within budget and at scale, is to help excellent teachers increase their productivity: swap portions of excellent teachers» time with digital
instruction so they can teach
more classes with similar or even smaller group sizes; let them delegate nonessential tasks to other adults; use digital tools to save time on instructional monitoring and
planning; put them in charge of other teachers; and let the willing have
more students to nurture under their strong wings.
For example, by replacing 25 — 50 percent of teaching in some subjects, digital
instruction can free excellent teachers» time, enabling them to take responsibility for
more students — keeping similar class sizes and gaining
planning time.
Once
planning is complete, teachers often find that differentiated
instruction removes the pressure of conducting an entire class on their own and that engaging with students becomes easier and
more rewarding.

plan and organize
instruction in a
more careful, detailed, and comprehensive fashion.

With the support of a dynamic school board, Mr. Runcie developed a strategic
