Missions such as the Hubble
Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Cosmic Background Explorer are all answering some of the fundamental questions in astrophysics, cosmology and
planetary science: how did the Solar System form?
The team will conduct analyses of spacecraft and

planetary exploration program, preserve its Earth
science missions, and to begin work on the next generation of
space telescopes.
It is the first
space mission sponsored by a public organization, the 100,000 - member

science - based entertainment company run by Ann Druyan, Sagan's widow and collaborator.
Whereas knowledge of
space weather conditions at different
planetary systems is a requisite for future
mission planning, the scientific data to be obtained by these
missions are going to provide in turn an important feedback for interdisciplinary
science in the field of
planetary space weather.

Hofstadter has taken part in various studies through the years that have investigated concepts for
missions to Uranus which haven't been selected by the U.S.
space agency to date, due to severe budget cuts to its
planetary science programs.
The Administration's decision to cut funding for NASA's
planetary science program, especially the decision to not participate in what was planned as NASA - European
Space Agency joint
missions to Mars in 2016 and 2018 — was also mentioned.
Despite a series of further proposed cuts to the
space agency's
planetary science budget in recent years by the White House, Congress has nevertheless been much more supportive of a Europa
mission, appropriating more than $ 100 million during the same time period for the further development of a
mission concept called the Europa Clipper, which is currently under study by NASA.
