Efforts to detect
planets via these methods can take months — and they often come up empty.

Hundreds of exoplanets —
planets beyond our solar system — have already been detected from the ground and from other spacecraft
via transit searches and other
methods.
Still, many of the nearby
planets are detectable
via three exoplanet hunting
methods: planetary transits, high - contrast imaging, and stellar radial velocity measurements.
On March 25, 2015, a team of astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope revealed observations which indicate
via the transit
method that Alpha Centauri B may have a second
planet «c» in a hot inner orbit, just outside
planet candidate «b.» After observing Alpha Centauri B in 2013 and 2014 for a total of 40 hours, the team failed to detect any transits involving
planet b (previously detected using the radial velocity variations
method and recently determined not to be observed edge - on in a transit orbit around Star B).
[109] The observational thresholds for
planet detection in the habitable zones
via the radial velocity
method are currently (2017) estimated to be about 50 M ⊕ for Alpha Centauri A, 8 M ⊕ for B, and 0.5 M ⊕ for Proxima.
To put it another way: Even if we checked out 100,000 stars that actually had Earthlike
planets, we would only be able to «see» 500 of them
via the transit
method.
Most importantly, as Feng explained
via an email exchange shared with Gizmodo, the research pushes the limits of the sorts of
planets we can detect with the radial velocity
method, boosting our prospects of discovering truly Earth - sized, rocky worlds in the future.
At many of the recent digital publishing and ebook events, a lot of the presentations and panel discussions focused on globalization, or the ability to put ebooks in front of any person on the
planet via a variety of devices or
methods.

A second general
method for cooling the
planet involves removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, either
via sequestration or CO2 capture, or possibly through ocean iron fertilization to promote the growth of CO2 - consuming algae.
