in our dining room and it was workin out too expensive, so then i thought vertical
planks but i much rather the horizontal

My parents had a wood
plank wall in their old home, but when they built their new
house, the didn't include the
planks into the plans.
In fact, someone asked me via Pinterest about natural wood
plank walls, so I'm adding a picture of our family beach
house, with natural wood

Our original plan was to add
planked walls like we had
in our old
house or maybe even
planking the ceiling to bring more character.

house has
planked ceilings all over and wood board on the north
wall, which where added for insulation
in the eighties, and my husband hates them.

We are moving into our new * old *
house next week and I'd say, oh, 75 % of the
walls are
planks (as
in, 1965
planks) and the CEILING is
planked as well.

And it was as open a floorplan as I'd ever want (living room / dining room) and so airy, with a host of clever features (like a two - sided cabinet that had a door
in the kitchen
in which to store the clean dishes and a glass door
in the dining room from which you could easily set the table), but my biggest favorite were the
plank walls, nothing really, really fancy but
in every room of the
house and each room painted a soft pastel color.
We installed the same pine tongue and groove
planks horizontally both
in the back of open cabinets and on the
walls in our brand new Craftsman style
house in 2012.
One of the things I've missed the most from living
in houses closer to 100 years old is all the amazing real
plank walls, wood
walls, wainscoting, ceilings and trim work that often comes along with those charming homes!
Since I had a contractor
in my
house to paint my
wall, I realized rather than having him take the time to patch and fill
in the doorbell section, might as well just cover it with charming shiplap
planks instead!
Most of the wooden shiplap
walls she liked were over a fireplace mantel, but there isn't a fireplace
in their
house... so we faked it and made a TV
wall accent
plank strip thingy (I'm pretty sure that's the official name).

in the hallway and master bedroom, I've been dying to try a few
walls around the
house too.
Planked walls, herringbone floors, charming new lighting, beautiful doors and windows and remodeled mudrooms might be high on our
house - loving wish - list (and there's no shame
in being able to add those things) but when you just go get yourself some hooks and hang them on the boring old drywall you are reminded (once again) that it's really the little things we do (and are grateful for) that will make our
house a home.
