HONG KONG (Reuters)- Japan is sitting on enough untapped geothermal power to replace all
its planned nuclear stations over the next decade.

While all variations of the
plan envision the relicensing of the company's four existing
nuclear units at the Surry and North Anna
stations, none calls for a third reactor at North Anna, which Dominion has been contemplating.

Plan B is required in case new
nuclear stations are not built on time...
Conservatives, by contrast, are committed to allowing the replacement of existing
nuclear power
stations provided they are subject to the normal
planning process for major projects (under a new national
planning statement) and provided also that they receive no public subsidy.
Under the terms of the coalition agreement the Lib Dems will abstain when the government brings forward a national
planning statement outlining
plans for a new
nuclear power
station.
Plaid Cymru leader Ieuan Wyn Jones has been criticised for failing to state definitively whether he supports
plans to replace the Wylfa

stations in the UK stalls in response to the crisis, the result will be an increase of 9m tonnes of carbon dioxide for every year we delay».
