Aquaporins have long been known to act as pores by transporting water across membranes in
plants and animals, and they play critical roles in controlling the water content of cells.
So we went after this, and now of course that protein is known as
aquaporin 1, the first defined water channel; a large family of hundreds of different water channels and different organisms — these green
plants around us here have
aquaporins in their rootlets.
