According to the artist, the broken plate paintings begun in 1978 were inspired by the Spanish visionary architect Antonio Gaudi who imbedded bits of glass and crockery into
the plaster walls of his buildings.

of Simple Construct, a San Diego design /
build construction company that specializes in straw bale
building, they realized that straw bale
building, with its high performance, thick
walls, and «adobe»
plaster, was a perfect match.
