The all -
plastic back of the device is less slippery than the aluminum used in the iPad 2 and the Motorola XOOM, so it is slightly easier to hold with one hand which makes it more ideal for reading eBooks, websites and PDF's.
The material travels round to the back of the ereader, so that when you're holding it within the case it feels a lot more premium than
the plastic backing of the device.
The plastic back of the device looks like the lid of a MacBook, except with the Lenovo logo sitting in the center.

A simple - looking
device, the reMarkable (the first product
of a company by the same name) features a white
plastic frame and bezel, an aluminum
back panel and its 10.3 - inch Canvas display, which consists
of five proprietary technologies.
The
back of the
device features a smooth
plastic surface with prominent HTC and Verizon branding.
With the new Nexus 7, Google has gotten rid
of the glove - like feel
of the
back of the
device, replacing it with a smooth
plastic, much like the
back of the HTC First and 8X.
The front
of the tablet has a metal frame, which makes it seem more durable even though the frame and
back of the
device at
plastic.
The soft - touch
plastic on the
back of the
device makes for easy handling, and a brushed metal strip emblazoned with a «With Google» logo spices up a classy but sedate reddish brown
back panel.
A panel
of leather on the
back covers the entire rear section
of the
device except for exposed, matching - color
plastic along the edges.
Instead
of some cheap
plastic with a faux - carbon - fiber pattern adorned on it (like you might see on a Galaxy S
device), the Sensation has a thick and rugged soft touch
plastic back and an aluminum «belt» traversing its midsection that curls around to form the bezel
of the
device.
The
device is coated with quality gray («gunmetal»)
plastic, with the
back's two - toned assembly reminiscent
of the Nexus One, and it's easily unnoticed.
The
back of the
device is made
of plastic, but actually has a textured finish to that does well to negate that fact.
The frame
of the
device uses aluminum in tandem with
plastic, with rounded edges and corners and a front face that is also finished with the same glass that we find on the
back.
The build quality is similar, albeit without the removable
back panels, and the overall feel is
of a
plastic device, but one that's slim and easy to hold.
The unassuming design flows to the rest
of the tablet, with the dark grey
plastic screen surround complimented by a lighter shade
of grey on the
back — providing what can only be described as a drab looking
device, lacking the shiny pizzazz
of Apple's iconic offerings.
Of these two
devices, Samsung really changed their approach in designing the new Galaxy S6, but then they needed to the most — no more
plastic, instead we have a solid aluminum unibody with Gorilla Glass 2.5 D on the front and Gorilla Glass 4 on the
back.
It's a bit thicker — 0.41 - in., which isn't all that bad — and has a textured
plastic back instead
of the more metallic material used on premium
devices.
Using one
of the
plastic opening tools, start above one
of the page - turning buttons and pry open the
back of the
device.
With the
device powered off, the only noticeable difference is that the
back cover now has a thin strip
of plastic stretching across the top, presumably to improve signal reception.
Its black, high - impact -
plastic exterior is virtually identical to that
of the less expensive Ectaco jetBook Lite, except instead
of a hump for replaceable AA batteries, there's a small, tapered rectangular mound on the
back for housing the
device's built - in rechargeable lithium battery.
Unfortunately, these tablets still have
plastic backs, but we guess using glass on the
back of such large
devices would add too much weight and make them very fragile.
There is something I do appreciate about the warmth and grip
of a
plastic -
backed device.
These are rather unusually situated along one
of the
device's shorter edges - the top right, when it's aligned in landscape according to the front - camera and the embedded
plastic Hudl insignia on the
back.
The
back of the
device features a grid
of raised
plastic squares, which supports Nabi accessories (a stand on display at the booth served as one example).
I had a few different options from NuAns: a remarkably comfortable - to - hold
plastic, a magnificently soft suede, and — my personal favorite — a wood -
backed panel that adds a touch
of retro charm to the
device.
The
back is still made
of plastic, but the edges
of the
device are definitely metal and they even have the same polished edges and brushed center as those on the iPhone 5S.
Moreover, the glossy
plastic backing becomes slippery and oily especially after a period
of extended use, adding on to my overall problems with having a good grip on the
device.
With its sober black and silver surfaces, the tablet sports much
of the same handsome aluminum aesthetics as the Pad Infinity TF700, except for one noticeably bad difference — the Windows
device's
back panel is sectioned off into two parts, one
of which is about 2 inches wide and is made out
of an unattractive lined
plastic.
The matte
plastic back cover offers a nice feeling in the hand, and the
back cover is also removable, despite it wrapping around to the chin
of the
device.
Apart from the display, the whole thing has been carved out
of a single piece
of aluminum, with
plastic stripes on the
back for
device's antennas.
Unlike the glossy
plastic used on the
back of the Honor Holly, the rear repels most fingerprints and smudges, keeping the
device looking fresh.
So like most other Samsung
devices the
back of the Galaxy Alpha is
plastic — and relatively thin, flexible
plastic at that.
Aside from the bits
of metal exposed around the edges, the rest
of the
device is either
plastic (on the
back) or glass (on the front).
The feel here is very much similar to that
of the Moto G. Like that
device, the Moto E features a smooth matte
plastic finish, gentle curves around the
back, rounded edges, with a little dimple on its rear cover that's naturally inviting for your index finger to rest on and rub.
That curved glass will be familiar to owners
of Nokia Lumia
devices, and the inset lines
of plastic on the
back are reminiscent
of the HTC One.
The Z3 Compact uses a
plastic frame in place
of the Z1 Compact's metal, but the move from a cheap - feeling
plastic back to glass means the newer Compact feels like the more premium
device.
A combination
of materials has gone into the build
of this
device, with glass up front, an all metal
back plate, and
plastic along its sides.
Samsung's latest flagship
devices standout for ditching the
plastic backing of their ancestors in favor
of a sleek aluminum an glass body.
There's plenty
of room around the screen and the four
plastic buttons (Call, Menu,
Back, End call) at the base
of the
device are pretty thumb - friendly too.
The
back is covered in a soft - but - not - quite
plastic that reminded us a bit
of the Nexus 7, and it's clear that Asus wanted to avoid overdesigning this
device.
I liked the chrome trim around the front
of the
device, and the fake metallic brush strokes on its curved
back helped me forget that Acer's phone is made
of plastic.
We at SamMobile think that this is the perfect balance
of plastic and metal on a
device, as the metal sides give a premium and solid look, while the
plastic back helps with the ergonomics.
As exclusively leaked by SamMobile earlier, the Galaxy Alpha's core, main
device frame and sides, are made out
of aluminium instead
of plastic, while Samsung is using the the same perforated
back panel as seen on the company's flagship smartphone, Galaxy S5, and tablet, Galaxy Tab S. Alpha is the first
device to use Samsung's latest «new materials» strategy.
