I disagree.A
wingback can be viewed
as a defensive winger.Whether the Ox likes it or not he's been blessed with the qualities of a winger.To me that's his best position.He's only doing well
as a
wingback because of his attacking abilities.
As I said earlier a
wingback can be viewed
as a sort of defensive winger.That's why CB's who are used
as RB or LB can not play
wingback.
Wingback needs the
player to be able to adapt himself like a winger while also being solid defensively.Ox has the attacking part but not the defensive part.With Bellerin we have the best of both worlds.He can attack, defend and also has the speed necessary to play
wingback.I fear Ox being played at
wingback will cost us when we play teams with tricky wingers.He should rather be challenging Sanchez or Ozil for their positions and not
wingback.The guy hates to always have to defend which in truth he can't.
If you look at how we attacked other teams in pre season then the
wingbacks will be recognised
as a big part, they was the
players who was looking to get past his man and drive the attack.
I've realised people are confusing fullback and
wingback assuming them to almost be the same.A
wingback can be viewed
as a more defensive winger whiles a fullback is just a
player put near the sides of the centre fullback.Their roles are clearly very different and well defined.That's why you'll consider Ox at RWB and not RB.We need to switch back to 4 -2-3-1 to get the best out of our
players like Ozil, Ox, Kolasinac, Bellerin and Monreal.They'll suffer a lot under 3 -4-3.
Walcott, under this pattern will now be with more encouragement to look for the crosses from the
wingbacks as well
as the infield
players who are world class in Sanchez and Ozil.
Our 3 back is just so wrong.We don't have natural
wingbacks even in this formation.It also seems to me that lots of people here believe if you're good at right or left fullback then automatically you're good at RWB / LWB which quite frankly is untrue.That's why Oxlade Chamberlain can be considered at RWB but not right back.At RWB or LWB you're asking too much in terms of attack from Bellerin and Kolasinac.A proper wing back can be viewed
as a more defensive winger which quite frankly none of them are and they don't possess the flexibility too to play that way.Our midfielders are also not disciplined enough because in 3 back there's a huge gap in the centre of the field that must be covered by our CM's so indiscipline only means disaster.We also have Ozil who looks like he's playing at RW in 3 back.In that we're limiting his impact because Ozil takes on his man because he wants to not because he likes to.You can't play such
players at the wing.He's a proper No. 10 who likes to be given freedom.That's why Ozil plays likes he's lazy on the ball and stuff.It's because he wants to be free and for that you need to put him at No. 10.
Times when our defenders got outnumbered it was midfielders
wingbacks wingers and pers partner at fault just
as much
as the big man himself, per did hash things up a few times ie the ducking but hes not the only Arsenal
player who has had form best forgotten and he certainly wont be the last.
I think the English
players can fill the
wingback positions, because they are usually very athletic and fast,

as they are given the chance to play in some matches.
Perhaps Wenger thought of Ozil - Sanchez partnership
as Maradona, Messi, Cristiano, Berkamp and Henry all rolled into two and would survive the removal of one attack - minded
player who was transferred to defense in the latest 5 - defender setup with three in the back and two
wingbacks who could also add in attack.
