«I think we underestimated how poor
the playing quality of the squad was, and frankly, we underestimated how difficult it was going to be to stabilise the asset,» FSG's former general counsel Edward Weiss told a New York court hearing.

I quite agree sell all the deadwoods but which player in his right mind would want to come to arsenal at the moment, remember people man u was in the same situation under moyes but we're able to attract better player's even when not
playing champions league, the selling point from arsenal point
of view is to tell players which they are trying to get what the plan is
of getting back to top flight football by going for the Europa league over the FA cup and finishing in the top six otherwise if they go for wishy - washy arsene wenger stupid attitude

Everyone n football and most
of the same fans know Sanchez is our only player
of quality, Henry said he is the only player who would get into the Spurs
squad, and we
play him with one hand tied behind his back on the left wing with effectively no existing central striker to worry defenders (unless you count Giroud as a central striker but I refuse to believe Giroud worries any central defender).
It's difficult to blame Ozil for the difficulties he's faced at Arsenal without looking at the big picture... like the fans, he too was lied to by Wenger... there is no doubt in my mind that he was told by Wenger that he was trying desperately to recreate our earlier success by acquiring players that fit the system he ran when Henry was in his prime... as we know this hasn't happened... in order for Ozl to flourish he needs some speed up front, forwards that can make intelligent runs, a boss in the midfield to compensate for his obvious defensive liabilities and defenders who can transition from defence to offence quickly and efficiently... much like he had in Real and with the German National
squad... unfortunately he ended up on a
squad that has a striker who
plays with his back to goal, very few intelligent runs into the box, minus Sanchez, no one to take pressure off him in the midfield, once Cazorla was injured, average defensive midfielders around him, which simply highlighted his lacking defensive
qualities and defenders who lack the necessary cutting edge when it comes to transitional passing... instead
of blaming Ozil, which is simply too easy, especially considering his mopey disposition, we should be asking ownership and / or Wenger why they brought him in if they didn't intend on doing what was necessary to get the best from him... can you imagine Ozil
playing with the likes
of Henry, Viera, Petit and Pires, it would be incredibly to watch and even more difficult to stop... so the only thing different between his experiences in Real and with the German team versus his time at Arsenal are the players around him and we all know who is in charge
of making those decisions, the Grinch who stole soccer
Maybe that is why Arsene Wenger has made a point
of praising the giant defender ahead
of the Chelsea game, as reported by the Arsenal website, talking about his leadership
qualities and how important he is to the
squad even if he is not
playing.
Why is Ozil

Grandad both Wilshere and Welbeck will be
playing for the likes

A lack
of quality in depth in the current
squad could also be blamed for that as Milan have
played a lot
of games this season already having had to also deal with Europa League qualifiers at the start
of the campaign, and so perhaps that is also catching up with them.
Wenger paid # 42millions so he would
play as a number 10... He is not multitask or able to adapt to different positions (unless we interchange, but we have no where near the

It's got to be really difficult to separate what the future potential
of a lot
of the players on the current
squad is based on their level
of play in offensive, defensive, and special teams systems that, let's face it, were not NFL
quality schemes.
Things like good players and a good balance to the team, as well as the strength
of squad to cope with all the games are fairly obvious
qualities a title winning team needs, but I think that luck can also
play a big part over the course
of a campaign.
I mean, I talked about the mentality shift that rarely occurs in those teams in previous articles and look, Real
played PSG away missing Bale and Benzema but still looked more likely to win the game than not, even though the hosts had a fully armed
squad sparkling
of quality.
Nwakali is a forward or wing player, nothing like kante and Ramsey is a
squad player for me not first team
quality, if Carzola is fit, him and xhaka would be a mouth watering fit but with Arsenals Injurie luck this seems inlikely but i wounder if the five at the back would work if we
play a stubborn team that defends, i hope Arsene would change the formation in such games back to 4 -2-3-1 but this would require a proper rght wing which we havent had in years, we've had OX, Campell, Wallcot, Iwobi, Ramsey, Welbeck and Ozil
play in that position and non
of them have made it their own like sanchez has with the left wing
For Arsenal, a Club which seeks to
play entertaining football both home and away against Clubs who are either fighting for survival or a place in the top 4 with a
squad that because
of under investment is short in terms
of having the
squad of quality players that you need to
play the Wenger way — then something has to eventually suffer.
Arsenal has depth, but it isn't
quality squad depth, Rosiscky, Cazorla, Ozil all
play the same position and neither
of them add a great deal more than the other, our midfield is stoked but the areas we actually need depth in are barren, we have no solid defensive midfielder with our usual reliance on a CAM moved back, as a result players like Ramsey and Wilshere who are box to box players end up creating more imbalance in an already unbalanced team.
His constant undermining
of talented players by using them incorrectly,
playing out
of position, subbing or not even picking them, buying players for other positions we need less keenly than the gaping holes everywhere we look, (CDM esp and some
quality CB's to step in immediately) has bemused and undermined much
of our whole
squad.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety
of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style
of play has become a shadow
of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and
play» mentality where players
play out
of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid
of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current
squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance
play quickly out
of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive
qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes
of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted
play of Monreal, but none
of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was
playing and his ratio
of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched
played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball
play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part
of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he
played with Coq Wenger always seemed to
play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part
of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature
of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player
of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been
played out
of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front
of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that,
of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one
of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one
of the most committed skill players we've seen on this
squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already
of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs
of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class
qualities but he's lack
of mobility is an albatross around the necks
of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because
of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
However if Sanchez and Ozil are not
playing when you look at the rest
of our
squad we are looking very short on
quality.
I hope I'm wrong but this could be the most damaging win when it comes to transfers... winning 1 game, after about 20 minutes
of really good
play, is
of little consequence in the grand scheme
of things... only those with the most selfish
of intentions would suggest otherwise... the only reason we're even in this predicament, where were celebrating our first victory
of 2018 against a bottom half
squad who is managed by possibly the only individual more antiquated than our manager, is because
of Wenger's ridiculous mishandling
of his contract last year combined with his mishandling
of the contracts
of our top players this year; a fact that he himself admitted to... so before you get too excited about the possibilities
of our current roster don't forget what has happened over the last several years and pray to the gods
of football that real
quality reinforcements like Auba are on the way, which could have happened years ago for less money and we might have been holding a trophy
of some significance, or this brief respite will be followed by the usual mediocrity and stagnation
He's a
quality squad player, but not good enough to be our main striker, and doesn't really fit into our style
of play.
One good bit
of news for the Gunners is that Fernandinho is not likely to
play after suffering a hamstring injury, but Guardiola has more than enough
quality squad players to replace like for like.
Both players are versatile enough to be considered as capable
of playing higher up the pitch, however, whilst it is vital that Louis van Gaal fills his
squad with both
quality competition and players who can cover a number
of positions if he is to bring his 5 -3-2 system that he has being using with the Netherlands at the World Cup to Old Trafford.
I for one will continue calling him a RIDICULOUS manager, why, because we
play top
quality teams giving them advantages in various areas to use against,
playing players who do not have all the required requisites to
play in very important positions, showing massive favoritism to players who are not even fully fit, over using players, while there are adequate substitutes on the bench or in the
squad and not fixing the deficiencies in the team because
of stubbornness.
Former England manager Terry Venables has no reason to want Arsenal to do well, having
played for and been manager
of our fierce north London rivals Tottenham, but even he is desperate for Arsene Wenger to see sense and see that the
squad needs some top
quality players bringing in to allow us to fight for major honours, as an Evening Standard report reveals.
The
squad needs wholesale changes as a number
of players have once again showed they lack the consistency and
quality to
play for Arsenal.
To find a club before start
of August or they won't even be
playing with the kids... that is how you act, and facilitate such deals by not looking to make money but dump salary and create space in the
squad for
quality players.
He is the worst when it comes to transfers, He talks about
quality and availability and need to our
squad... let me moved some names who have moved... Pedro who can
play as a false 9, Schneiderlin a DM and a better distributor than Coq although I love Coq but we need depth and we are away from 1 injury from the defensive crisis now, Vidal who can attack and defend and can change the tempo
of the game when we need to (do we have anyone like that) would have been a great upgrade on Wilshere and Ramsey, Shaqiri, Sterling who can
play any role amongst the forwards and as a CAM also, Angel Di Maria we all know him, Kondogbia as one
of the best DMs on the pitch, and many more.
Now I think there is still reasons to be cheerful, I agree Man C & Chelski have spent & bought some good players, we all understand that 5
of those teams might be in the CL proper which is a huge distraction for those 4 - 5 teams.Chelsea will not be able to field the same 13 - 14 players all season, as for Man C they were very frail at the back last season, add to that 2 flying wing backs and I'm not sure they will be any better this coming season.LFC will most probably have CL as well if they qualify and haven't exactly bought great players apart from Salah who could be a good aquasistion for them.Spuds have sold a good player & strengthened a rival & still not bought a single player yet, Man U have bought 2 good players & in Lukaku have a proven goal scorer in the PL but if they
play the same dour way they did last season & with the added games the CL brings will they perform week in week out in the league??? As for Everton yes they have released a lot
of players and also brought in a lot too to give better
quality in the
squad as they have Europa league the same as US the big difference is I think we will
play squad players & youngsters maybe with a few senior players all the way up to the QF This tells me most
of our rivals will pave the way for us to field pretty much the same side every weekend in the PL thus giving us an advantage over all the other 5 teams
playing in the CL & Europa, just remember the League has been won in the last 2 seasons by teams NOT in Europe YES we are this season but I think Wenger will put all his eggs in the League basket and field an under strength side in all comps hence focusing on the League until we are no longer in the race.
They are probably still getting used to Pep's
playing style but they are a PL team who have a similar
quality squad and should be at a similar phase
of their preparations.
Mourinho is ready to adopt a
quality over quantity approach to his Chelsea
squad and is ready to listen to offers to many
of his
playing staff with as many as ten set for a possible exit either in January or next summer.
As it stands, this
squad is fairly well positioned to compete for the Wenger Cup and make a deep run in the Europa, if and only if we
play first stringers in Europe and use the bench for the League and FA Cups... that being said, and based on the fragility
of the manager and the team in recent campaigns, it's more likely that Wenger will focus on a top 4 finish and the FA Cup... while the reasons for such an approach may appear logical, it would confirm a rather disturbing trend and appear counter intuitive for any team which claims to have higher aspirations... I feel that Wenger simply can't afford to put all his eggs in the Europa basket because if he fails the potential backlash could cripple any top 4 chances due to the aforementioned fragile psyche that tends to rear it's ugly head like our own personal groundhog day each and every February... furthermore, can you even imagine Wenger bringing in the necessary recruits to adequately supply top
quality lineups in a Thursday / Sunday dominated schedule; based on everything I've seen in recent years, I can't see that happening... in fact, mark my words, it's more likely that we see Lacazette
playing out wide in Alexis's position with Giroud at striker, than we see Wenger make the necessary moves to right this ship... god, I hope I'm wrong but is it really that far - fetched considering what we've witnessed for past several years
Time for some brutal honesty... this team, as it stands, is in no better position to compete next season than they were 12 months ago, minus the fact that some fans have been easily snowed by the acquisition
of Lacazette, the free transfer LB and the release
of Sanogo... if you look at the facts carefully you will see a team that still has far more questions than answers... to better show what I mean by this statement I will briefly discuss the current state
of affairs on a position - by - position basis... in goal we have 4 potential candidates, but in reality we have only 1 option with any real future and somehow he's the only one we have actively tried to get rid
of for years because he and his father were a little too involved on social media and he got caught smoking (funny how people still defend Wiltshire under the same and far worse circumstances)... you would think we would want to keep any goaltender that Juventus had interest in, as they seem to have a pretty good history when it comes to that position... as far as the defenders on our current roster there are only a few individuals whom have the skill and / or youth worthy
of our time and / or investment, as such we should get rid
of anyone who doesn't meet those simple requirements, which means we should get rid
of DeBouchy, Gibbs, Gabriel, Mertz and loan out Chambers to see if last seasons foray with Middlesborough was an anomaly or a prediction
of things to come... some fans have lamented wildly about the return
of Mertz to the starting lineup due to his FA Cup performance but these sort
of pie in the sky meanderings are indicative
of what's wrong with this club and it's wishy - washy fan - base... in addition to these moves the club should aggressively pursue the acquisition
of dominant and mobile CB to stabilize an all too fragile defensive group that has self - destructed on numerous occasions over the past 5 seasons... moving forward and building on our need to re-establish our once dominant presence throughout the middle
of the park we need to target a CDM then do whatever it takes to get that player into the fold without any
of the usual nickel and diming we have become famous for (this kind
of ruthless haggling has cost us numerous special players and certainly can't help make the player in question feel good about the way their future potential employer feels about them)... in order for us to become dominant again we need to be strong up the middle again from Goalkeeper to CB to DM to ACM to striker, like we did in our most glorious years before and during Wenger's reign... with this in mind, if we want Ozil to be that dominant attacking midfielder we can't keep leaving him exposed to constant ridicule about his lack
of defensive prowess and provide him with the proper players in the final third... he was never a good defensive player in Real or with the German National
squad and they certainly didn't suffer as a result
of his presence on the pitch... as for the rest
of the midfield the blame falls squarely in the hands
of Wenger and Gazidis, the fact that Ramsey, Ox, Sanchez and even Ozil were allowed to regularly start when none
of the aforementioned had more than a year left under contract is criminal for a club
of this size and financial might... the fact that we could find money for Walcott and Xhaka, who weren't even guaranteed starters, means that our whole business model needs a complete overhaul... for me it's time to get rid
of some serious deadweight, even if it means selling them below what you believe their market value is just to simply right this ship and change the stagnant culture that currently exists... this means saying goodbye to Wiltshire, Elneny, Carzola, Walcott and Ramsey... everyone, minus Elneny, have spent just as much time on the training table as on the field
of play, which would be manageable if they weren't so inconsistent from a performance standpoint (excluding Carzola, who is like the recent version
of Rosicky — too bad, both will be deeply missed)... in their places we need to bring in some proven performers with no history
of injuries... up front, although I do like the possibilities that a player like Lacazette presents, the fact that we had to wait so many years to acquire some true
quality at the striker position falls once again squarely at the feet
of Wenger... this issue highlights the ultimate scam being perpetrated by this club since the arrival
of Kroenke: pretend your a small market club when it comes to making purchases but milk your fans like a big market club when it comes to ticket prices and merchandising... I believe the reason why Wenger hasn't pursued someone
of Henry's
quality, minus a fairly inexpensive RVP, was that he knew that they would demand players
of a similar ilk to be brought on board and that wasn't possible when the business model was that
of a «selling» club... does it really make sense that we could only make a cheeky bid for Suarez, or that we couldn't get Higuain over the line when he was being offered up for half the price he eventually went to Juve for, or that we've only paid any interest to strikers who were clearly not going to press their current teams to let them go to Arsenal like Benzema or Cavani... just part
of the facade that finally came crashing down when Sanchez finally called their bluff... the fact remains that no one wants to win more than Sanchez, including Wenger, and although I don't agree with everything that he has done off the field, I would much rather have Alexis front and center than a manager who has clearly bought into the Kroenke model in large part due to the fact that his enormous ego suggests that only he could accomplish great things without breaking the bank... unfortunately that isn't possible anymore as the game has changed quite dramatically in the last 15 years, which has left a largely complacent and complicit Wenger on the outside looking in... so don't blame those players who demanded more and were left wanting... don't blame those fans who have tried desperately to raise awareness for several years when cracks began to appear... place the blame at the feet
of those who were well aware all along
of the potential pitfalls
of just such a plan but continued to follow it even when it was no longer a financial necessity, like it ever really was...
Laca
playing as a CF in a 4231, with mesut (10, not a winger) wide on one side, Welbz (not a winger) on the other, and a midfield triangle
of Ramsey as a 10 (doesn't posses the requisite technical ability to be effective there), Jack (awful today and hasn't been good enough for a long time for us) and el neny (
squad player but not arsenal
quality).
Arsene will never admit he has made mistakes in some
of the players he has brought to the club, or he
plays players out
of position and he
plays players who are not performing to their best but they are his favourites so he wont see the need to get better players in as he always says «we have enough
quality in the
squad».
no idea what games you have been watching but the idea
of ramsey as a defensive enforcer is comical... missed tackles galore, slow in to tackles and weak first touch define his game... though to be fair only wenger thinks he is a renasiance footballer qble to
play any position... the ramsey bandwagon was for some time based on the barca cant have him ay any price delusion... the man should be part
of the summer sale crop along with mert walcott and gibbs... its fifty fifty on campbell and giroud... both are decent
squad players but the need for
quality attacking options is palpable
Yes, we have got an enormous amount
of individual ability and
quality in our
squad, Why then do they
play such awful football then turn it on?
Joel Campbell knows the
quality of Olympiakos more than any other member
of the Arsenal
squad having
played there on loan for a year, and famously scoring a goal when they beat Manchester United in the Champions League.
Season after season we attempt to win things with a
squad that has insufficient depth
of quality, with inadequate cover to rest players that get injured or are eventually jaded by having to
play too many games for club and country.
The signing
of Raphael Varane and Toni Kroos will surely shake up the entire Man Utd
squad as they are both high -
quality players and are capable
of walking into the
playing XI
of the Red Devils.
Having
played against Chelsea last season I know the high
quality of the
squad I am joining,» Costa told Chelsea's official website.
I think we need spain players with
qualities, like Carzola for example... A player
of Carzola's
qualities can easily catch up with our game not like Olivier Giroud that is taking a lot
of time to adapt to the premier league game, so if i should select the kind
of players we should be having i'll go for 2 strikers which are Roberto Soldado
of Valencia and Falcao who is out
of our limit cos there're a lot
of clubs on him in which we know Arsene wenger is not the type
of Man that compete when it comes to buying
quality players so what i suggest is that Mr wenger should go to Spain and pack as much as he can pack into the
squad and let them all
play Spain type
of football similar to barcelona's style
of play which everyone knows...
If he does become the 15th United player to make their debut under the Dutchman, like Rashford and Varela, he could well find himself retained in the senior
squad as a young footballer with many
of the
qualities that his manager not only needs but expects from those seeking to bring his philosophy to life on the field
of play.
The
squad has done excellently to keep up with the pace - setters despite the attritional
quality of our
play over the past six weeks.
Song, arguably our most improved player is on 4 yellow cards and we should ensure that he doesn't miss the Chelsea game. The partnership
of Gallas and Vermaelen is outstanding, yet one can not expect them to
play in every game, and it is in that are we are weak in cover. With regards to the full back situation, perm any two from four, that is Clichy, Gibbs, Eboue, Sagna and even Traore they are attacking wing backs and are always at risk on the quick counter attack by the opposition.Almunia still doesn't impress me and his command
of his area is still indecisive and he is still vulnerable to letting goals in, especially to his near post.Wenger being Wenger, I doubt he will buy in January, and it is a pity we didn't go for Given months before he joined City, when he was available for a comparatively cheap price. This new diamond shape or 4 -1-4-1 is working well and we have an abundance
of quality to interchange, which bemuses the opposition more often than not.We have every chance this year, and we are also being helped by the fact that the other so called big four sides are showing their vulnerability.A couple
of decent signings, not
squad players in January, and hopefully we are in the mix.
There have been suggestions that the midfielder could be promoted to the Arsenal first - team
squad next season and Zelalem seems to be the type
of player who would be more suited to
playing with high -
quality players with the Gunners as opposed to being asked to make an impact out on loan.
Given the congested fixture list we have at present, it's important that every member
of the
squad plays their part and it's great having two goalkeepers
of such
quality at my disposal.»
