Filmmaker Damien Power delivers a slow - burn opening stretch that certainly holds
plenty of potential, as the writer / director does an effective
job of establishing the various characters - with the promising vibe heightened by his somewhat innovative decision to spend time with the assailants before things go awry (ie the
bad guys, particularly in movies
of this ilk, are rarely developed beyond their most superficial attributes).
Although there are
plenty of city cars and superminis that will do the
job much better and for less money, the Jimny isn't
bad around town due to its compact footprint and small petrol engine, both
of which suit urban areas.
The story, which sees Isaac traveling to a planet that was the site
of some really
bad alien - related stuff 200 years ago, delivers some satisfying answers about the origins
of the Markers and the Necromorph menace (don't worry if you don't know / remember these names; an excellent prologue plus
plenty of in - game notes and videos do a good
job of setting the scene for rookies).
