Next, pin your drawn
on pocket piece onto the right side of your lining fabric.
All you have to do now is finish the pocket, by adding the other
pocket piece right on top of the one that is attached to your lining.
Place your two
pocket pieces right sides together and sew around all four sides, leaving a section open at the bottom for turning.
You are cutting through
your pocket piece and your lining.
Now, sew
your pocket piece onto your lining, tracing just the outer rectangle that you drew.
I usually use pins to get my lining out of the way, so I'm sure to just sew the edge of
my pocket pieces.
It actually works pretty well just to cut your sling fabric about 10» too long and include
the pocket piece (that extra 10») in your initial hemming, then cut it off.
Canvas, then pattern, then
the pocket piece you just finished ironing and pin together.
Lay the binding right side down on
the pocket piece that is facing up.
Cut a piece of bias binding the length of the top of
the pocket piece.
I stole
the pocket piece out of my Angela Wolfe Angel Jeans pattern, as I really like that pocket (it's a bit bigger that the Liana jean pocket).
And for reference, the width of
my pocket piece was about 8 ″ and the height about 8 1/2 ″.

Using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, sew
the pocket pieces together, sewing on the two long sides and the top short side.
Step 2) On
the pocket piece, turn 1 cm of fabric under along the two long sides and one short side and press.
