poem's fifteen - book narrative into a five - minute looped video, After
Metamorphoses (2015 — 16) has an almost manic rhythm, somewhat calmed by German musician Wibke Tiarks's soundtrack.
Mythical, exotic and dream - like, in some instances referencing Gauguin and Matisse, the canvases on view here were produced in the late 2000s and early 2010s and include Ofili's «
Metamorphoses» series which takes its name from Ovid's
poem.

It's an interesting choice for a painter, perhaps the most pleasure - centred, almost drugged
poem of the 17th century, and one which is fundamentally about the
metamorphosis of memory and feeling achieved in art.
Titian considered these paintings, of which there are seven in total, to be his own «painted
poems» of select myths from the Roman poet Ovid's magnum opus:
Metamorphoses.
The medium's ongoing
metamorphosis has necessitated new terms — «active - object», «relational object», «trans - object», «
poem object» — to better explain its ideal of creative playfulness and evocative ambiguity.
Metamorphosis: Titian 2012 is an epic collaboration between The Royal Ballet, The National Gallery and leading British artists and writers who were asked to make work inspired by Titian's paintings and Ovid's epic
poem.
His exhibition, organized by Claire Gilman, a curator at the Drawing Center, has a small sampling, including illustrations for Ovid's «

poems by Arthur Rimbaud.
