Practically, due to FPTP voting, United States has a (mostly) two - party system; in that two main parties (Democrats and Republicans as of 2016) in practice enjoy a nearly unchallenged
duopoly on
political power.
Opening up these states is paramount to breaking the
political establishment and ending the
duopoly.
Like my friend Cody Willard, I believe that one of the most important things that could happen politically would be to break the stranglehold that the Republican / Democrat
duopoly has on the
political process.
