Therefore, it is important to appreciate that the many ultra-low carbohydrate diets that are now in vogue for so many in the nutritional community, while they may be beneficial for those individuals who have, for years, ingested a diet high in
poor quality carbohydrates, can have an adverse effect on the gut when they are employed in excess for a significant period of time.
Like humans,
poor quality carbohydrates like processed wheat and corn aren't going to supply much energy, and excess carbs lead to weight gain.
